Founding Engineer, Tailoring Pipeline

Own the path a resume and job post take through Beacon: parsing, matching, tailoring and the honesty checks that keep every output grounded in what the candidate actually did.

Location
San Francisco, CA or remote in the US
Type
Full time
Compensation
$165,000 to $200,000 plus 0.35% to 0.85% equity

Beacon reads a job post and a resume, figures out how well they match, tailors the resume honestly and builds interview prep from the candidate's real background. The tailoring pipeline is the product: everything between 'paste your job post' and 'here is your tailored application'.

You would be the fourth engineer. The work is not glamorous and it decides whether the product is trustworthy. A tailored bullet that cannot be traced back to the candidate's actual experience is worse than no tailoring at all, and that bar is what this role is responsible for holding.

What you would own

  • Make resume parsing survive real inputs: PDFs exported from Google Docs, two-column templates, scanned pages, and everything pasted out of a career coach's template.
  • Keep a long job post and a long resume inside one request without dropping context at a chunk boundary.
  • Own the evaluation set. Every prompt change is measured against job posts and resumes with known good outputs before it ships.
  • Build and maintain the locate() pass that verifies every tailored line against the original resume before it reaches the screen.
  • Cut the cost per application without cutting the quality, which mostly means routing better rather than prompting differently.

What we are looking for

  • Five or more years building backend systems that other people depend on.
  • You have worked with language models in production and have opinions about evaluation that came from being burned by bad outputs.
  • You write TypeScript comfortably, or you will within a fortnight of starting.
  • You care about the difference between a demo that impresses and a thing a job seeker relies on the night before a deadline.

How hiring runs

A thirty-minute call with a founder, then a paid work session on a real problem from our backlog (three to four hours), then conversations with two people you would work with. Four steps, usually inside two weeks, and we tell you where you stand at every one.
