How it works

What happens between paste and answer

Three steps on the surface. Underneath, five, and the most important one is the check that throws away any evidence quote it cannot find in your actual resume.

The steps

Paste a job post and your resume. Get a tailored application.

01Paste

Drop in the job post and your resume

Copy the job posting and paste your current resume into Beacon. There is nothing to configure, no template to pick, and no format to match. Beacon works out the role, the seniority, and the requirements on its own.

02Fit score

See how well you match

Beacon reads the job post and your resume and scores how well you match, from 0 to 100. It names the requirements you clearly meet, with the evidence from your resume highlighted in green, and the gaps flagged in amber. A 74 is a fair match worth tailoring. A 45 is a reach and the score says so.

03Tailoring

Your resume, tailored to this role

Beacon rewrites your summary and the most relevant bullets to speak to what this role is asking for, in your voice and from your real history. It reorders and rephrases emphasis. It does not invent an employer, a degree, a certification, a metric, or a project you did not do. Every tailored line is grounded in your real resume and you can see the source.

04Cover letter

A letter specific to this company and role

Beacon drafts a cover letter that is specific to the position and the company, drawn from your real experience. Not a template. 200 to 300 words, warm and concrete, and it does not open with 'I am writing to apply'. One click regenerates it if you want a different angle.

05Interview prep

Walk into the room ready

Beacon builds the questions this role is likely to ask: a mix of behavioral, role-specific, and domain questions. Each comes with a strong answer outline drawn from your actual background. Where a question touches a gap, it says so honestly and shows how to address it.

In detail

The five stages

Written out because the trustworthy part of this product is not the model call. It is what happens either side of it, especially the check that enforces honesty in code rather than trusting it to the prompt.

  1. 01Classification

    Working out the role

Before scoring, Beacon classifies the role and seniority. A senior engineering role and a new-grad role are looking for different things even when the job title is the same, and the triage step uses a fast, cheap model so the main tailoring step gets cleaner instructions.

  2. 02Fit scoring

    Calibrated, not flattering

The model reads the job post and resume together, not in separate passes, because a requirement buried in the responsibilities section and a skill buried on page two of the resume both matter. Scores are calibrated to the market: 80 or above means clearly qualified, 55 to 79 is a fair match worth applying to, below 55 is a reach. Beacon does not push everyone to 85.

  3. 03Honesty check

    Every evidence quote verified

The model returns a verbatim quote from your resume as the evidence for each match. Before you see it, that quote is located in your actual resume, first exactly, then insensitive to whitespace and curly quotes, then by the longest prefix that does appear. A quote that cannot be found is thrown away and the count of dropped matches is reported to you. A highlight on a line that is not really there is worse than no highlight.

  4. 04Tailoring

In your voice, from your history

Each tailored bullet also carries a source line traced back to the resume. Beacon rewrites using only what is there: the same employers, titles, dates and metrics, reframed to speak to this role. The full tailored resume is plain text with clear section headers, ready to paste.

  5. 05Cover letter and prep

    Specific, not generic

The cover letter and interview prep are separate model steps, because drafting a letter and building a prep set are different jobs and may benefit from different temperature settings. Both draw from the same resume and job post context, so the prep is consistent with the tailored resume.
